One dead, 1 seriously injured in chain reaction accident

An accident on Interstate 66 in Northern Virginia left one person dead and a young woman, the deceased person’s wife, recovering from critical injuries. The family of the couple has begun raising money to cover medical bills and funeral expenses.

According to authorities, the accident involved a chain reaction on the freeway in the middle of the day. Apparently, the driver of a luxury vehicle rear-ended the vehicle in front of it. Ultimately, the BMW also hit a large truck. The large truck hit several other vehicles and eventually rolled over. One of the vehicles the truck hit left the road and caught fire.

The drivers of the BMW and the large truck suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital. Police have charged them both with reckless driving in connection with this tragic truck accident. Authorities said that this accident happened along a particularly dangerous portion of the Interstate. There have been several other accidents in this area.

Traveling on the major highways and freeways around Blacksburg requires a great deal of care. Motorists need to pay attention to avoid hitting vehicles in front of them, as traffic can slow or come to a stop with little warning. This is particularly true over major holidays like Labor Day, when Virginia’s principal highways are likely to be more crowded than usual.

Likewise, drivers of large trucks have some obligation to keep control of their vehicles, even if they do get struck or face some other emergencies. An out-of-control semi can cause serious damage and leave people dead, as was the case here.

The victims in this accident may have legal options available to them. They will no doubt need financial help with covering their bills, funeral expenses and other losses.
